About the PDF Compressor

Shrink a PDF so it fits an email or upload limit. The Toolcenter PDF Compressor offers a strong mode that rasterises pages and recompresses them at a resolution and JPEG quality you choose, plus a light mode that re-saves the file structure while keeping text selectable. All compression runs in your browser with no upload.

How to use it

  1. 1Add the PDF you want to make smaller.
  2. 2Pick “Strong” for maximum reduction or “Light” to keep text.
  3. 3Adjust DPI, JPEG quality and grayscale if using Strong mode.
  4. 4Compress, compare the before/after size, and download.

Key features

  • Two modes: aggressive rasterised or lossless re-save
  • Adjustable DPI and JPEG quality
  • Optional grayscale conversion for extra savings
  • Live original-vs-compressed size comparison
  • No upload and no watermark

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?+

Scanned or image-heavy PDFs often shrink 50-90% in Strong mode. Text-only PDFs save less because there is little to compress.

Why is text not selectable after compressing?+

Strong mode converts pages to images. If you need selectable text, use Light mode instead, which re-saves without rasterising.

Is any quality lost?+

Light mode is lossless. Strong mode trades some image sharpness for size — you control how much with the quality slider.

Are files uploaded to compress them?+

No. Rendering and compression happen in your browser, so the PDF never leaves your computer.
